Media wall guide
A media wall brings the TV, a fire, storage and lighting into one built-in run. This guide walks through each stage, who does it, and where made-to-measure units from DTJ fit in.
The stages
Stage 1
Every opening is sized round them, so choose them first. See TV and fire sizes.
Stage 2
Decide between a stud wall built out with recesses, or units fixed to the existing wall. See power, cables and built-out walls.
Stage 3
Measure the wall at three heights, the ceiling height, any chimney breast or alcoves, and where the sockets and aerial are.
Stage 4
Choose the units, panelling and lighting. We draw the wall and send a quote with drawings.
Stage 5
Your electrician puts sockets behind the TV and in the units, power for the fire, and a cable route from the TV down to the boxes.
Stage 6
If you are having a stud wall, your joiner or builder builds it, with timber or a backing board where the TV bracket goes.
Stage 7
Approve the drawings in writing and pay a 50% deposit. We confirm the lead time on your quote.
Stage 8
Your fitter installs the units, shelves and panelling, and the fire goes in following its maker's instructions.
Stage 9
The TV goes on, boxes and soundbar are wired in through the cable route, and the lighting is connected.
The parts
Storage
Units 220 to 575mm high, or 250 to 640mm handleless, 300 to 1000mm wide and 570mm deep. The fronts line up across the whole run.
The TV
For 43″ to 85″ screens, 320mm deep, with about 5cm of space round the TV so it can be lifted in and out.
The fire
Fire housing top shelves and TV mounting back panels, made to suit the fire and screen you choose.
Texture
Acuwall acoustic slat panels in Harbor Oak, Tobacco Walnut or Black Oak, which also soften sound. See slat panelling.
Paint finish
Reeded, fluted and grooved MDF panels cut on our own CNC, ready to paint. See wall panels.
Light
Häfele Loox5 strips and spots in recessed profiles: warm white, tuneable white or colour-changing, on dimmers, sensors or app control.
