Trade guide
Sending us a SketchUp drawing.
Draw the kitchen or wardrobes in SketchUp and send us the model. Set it up the way this guide shows and we can price it, and make it, straight from your drawing.
Before you start
Set the model up in millimetres.
- Open Window › Model Info › Units. Set Format to Decimal, Length to Millimetres and Precision to 0mm.
- Draw the room at full size: the walls, the floor and the ceiling height, from the floor up.
- Add anything that gets in the way: windows and their sill heights, doors, radiators, the boiler, soil pipes and sockets.
- Put the room on its own Tag (called Layers in older versions), for example Room.
Drawing the cabinets
One component for each cabinet.
1
Make each cabinet a component
Draw the carcass, select it and choose Make Component. One component per cabinet keeps the sizes together and lets us count them.
2
Use our sizes
Our kitchen base units are 720mm high and 570mm deep on a 150mm plinth. Wall units are 320mm deep and 575, 720 or 900mm high. Tall units are 1825, 1970 or 2150mm high.
3
Name it clearly
Name each component with its size and type, for example Base 600 3 drawer, or with our code from your trade price list, for example B60D.
4
Doors on their own tag
Put doors, drawer fronts and end panels on a Doors tag so we can hide them and see the carcasses. Show the hinge side on each door.
5
Mark anything special
Handleless (Gola), glass doors, open shelves, scribe and filler panels: write it in the component name or add a Text note next to it.
6
Dimension the walls
Use the Dimension tool on each wall length and the ceiling height, so we can check the cabinets fit the room.
Our full sizes are in door and drawer sizes and technical information.
Before you send it
A quick check.
- Every cabinet is a component, with no loose lines or faces left over
- The units are millimetres, and the walls are dimensioned
- Doors and drawer fronts are on their own tag
- Unused components and materials are purged: Window › Model Info › Statistics › Purge Unused
- You’ve added a screenshot or PDF of each wall (File › Export › 2D Graphic), so we can read it on any computer
Any recent version of SketchUp is fine. If we can't open your file, we'll ask you to save it in an older version. Big models? Zip the file before you upload it, or email us a WeTransfer link.
Upload
Send us your SketchUp drawing.
Upload the .skp file with any screenshots or PDFs. We check it and reply within 2 working days, usually with a quote and our own drawings to approve.
