How it works

How buying from DTJ works.

We make kitchen, bedroom and bathroom cabinets to measure in our Long Eaton workshop and supply them ready for your joiner to fit. Here is how an order goes, from your first measurements to the finished room.

Six steps

From measurements to a fitted room.

Step 1

Measure

Measure the room yourself using our measuring guide, or ask your joiner to. We don't do site visits, so we work from your sizes, plans or drawings.

Step 2

Quote

Send us your plan, drawings, a cabinet list or a cutting list. We draw the job in PolyBoard and send a quote with drawings, usually within a few working days.

Step 3

Deposit

Check and approve the drawings, sizes and finishes in writing, and pay a 50% deposit. Production starts once the deposit has cleared and everything is approved.

Step 4

Make

We cut every part on our CNC, edge it and build it in Long Eaton. Typical lead times: Cut & edge 5 working days, wardrobe cabinets 1 to 2 weeks, kitchens 2 to 3 weeks.

Step 5

Deliver

Pay the balance when your order is finished, then collect it or have it delivered. East Midlands delivery is £99 + VAT; further afield we price per job.

Step 6

Your joiner fits

Your own fitter or joiner installs it. If you don't have one, we can put you in touch with joiners who fit our cabinets.

What comes in an order

What we supply, and what you arrange.

Every quote lists exactly what is included. A typical kitchen or bedroom order looks like this.

We supply

In your order

  • Cabinets (carcasses) made to your sizes in 18mm board, in the decor on your quote
  • Doors and drawer fronts: our own MDF doors, or BA or PWS ranges
  • Drawer boxes and runners, hinges and shelves, ready for the doors to be hung
  • Plinths and end panels, plus filler and cover panels where your plan needs them
  • Worktops, handles, lighting and storage when you add them to your quote

You arrange

Trades on site

  • A fitter or joiner to install the cabinets, doors and worktops. We can put you in touch with one.
  • A plumber for the sink, taps, dishwasher and washing machine
  • An electrician for sockets, lighting, the oven and hob. Some work, like a new circuit, must be certified under Part P.
  • A Gas Safe registered engineer for any gas hob or cooker
  • Plastering, flooring, tiling and decorating, and any building work or skip

Deposit, payment and cancellations

Paying for made-to-measure goods.

  • 50% deposit confirms your order. The other 50% is due when your order is finished in the factory, before delivery, collection or release.
  • Production starts once your payment has cleared and the drawings, measurements, finishes and specifications are approved in writing.
  • Pay by BACS bank transfer or card. There is no minimum order.
  • Measurements you supply or approve are your responsibility, so check the drawings carefully.
  • Cancellations or changes after materials have been ordered or production has started may be chargeable. Because everything is made to your specification, the 14-day cooling-off period for online and distance sales doesn't apply.
  • Lead times are estimates and start from the latest of cleared payment, order confirmation and written approval of everything.

The full rules are in our terms of sale.
